The DIY Periodical for the creatively twisted!

Who says kids should be the only ones to have fun colouring? Each issue of the COLOR INK BOOK is full of tons of black and white illustrations for you to admire or modify as you see fit!

Some of the amazing artists represented include David Horvath, Tara McPherson, Luke Chueh, Buff Monster, and Tokidoki.

Color Ink Book is the brainchild of brothers Adam and Jason (Big Money Rodan) Washburn, and is a family owned and operated business based in Southern California. The book was designed to share their love of the arts and to promote the artists showcased within.

Pop Chart Lab Prints

Pop Chart Lab was founded in August 2010 by a book editor and a graphic designer who joined forces with one modest goal in mind: to render all of human experience in chart form. Each Pop Chart Lab product represents hundreds of hours of research and design work. Since the launch, Pop Chart Lab has tackled everything from beer to culinary devices to the story of a boy’s migration to a town called Bel Air.

Each print is signed and numbered by the artists, from a limited edition.

Using 100 lb. archival recycled stock certified by The Forest Stewardship Council, prints are pressed with vegetable-based inks in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

We’ve been fans of Burlington’s Jaded Dragon Studios for a long time.

Their great illustrations and sculptures have always had a great cutesy-geeky charm.

Now they’ve got a new line of ”antique” photo prints featuring all your favourite animals, decked out in their finery.

Pop one of these in an old frame and put it on your shelf next to that portrait of Great-Uncle Albert, and wait for people’s reaction. Or, send one in a greeting card.

Whatever you do with them, these affordable ($3-$6) little oddities are a ton of fun.

Nobody does posters like Fro.

Last year, Los Angeles artist Fro (aka Fernando Reza) treated movie buffs to a beautifully illustrated poster of the Terry Gilliam classic Brazil. The limited edition print sold out in just a few days.

When we started talking to Fro about doing another exclusive, we quickly came back to Terry Gilliam:

When Über Cool Stuff contacted me about following up our Brazil collaboration I was really excited. We have a mutual love for Terry Gilliam, and it meant another shot at commemorating one of my favorite directors. Time Bandits is a hard movie to encompass because of its huge scope. The characters move through these beautiful surreal landscapes and settings. The movie has a kind of dream logic to it that transitions you from scene to scene. My favorite example is the giant emerging from the sea. Visually that scene, along with David Warner’s crazy H.R. Giger-inspired headpiece, make up the elements of the print, and I hoped to capture the eclectic bizarre beautiful imagery that set the movie apart.

Everything is captured in a gorgeous red duotone style, and printed in the artist’s workshop.

This Limited Edition Giclée print is 18″ x 24″, printed on heavy stock, and hand-signed and numbered by the artist.

Shipped in a heavy 3″ kraft tube via Canada Post.

Sculpture Culture: Indie Toy Show & Sale

London’s First Ever Indie/Custom/DIY Toy Show

On Saturday, November 17th, creators from across Ontario joined 12 London-area artists for the store first art-toy exhibition. (But certainly not its last).

Well over 200 people made their way through a packed space to check out creations that ranged from custom Dunnys and Trikkys to original resin casts & sculpts.

The best thing about the show was discovering local artists and giving them a chance to meet. We’re already discussing when ubercool will be hosting our first artists’ meetup. (Probably January, and if you want to know about it, email us.)

A huge thank-you to all our contributing artists. Special thanks to Elaine Geroche of Greatbeard for coordinating our visiting artists, and to Jason Uszynski and Tom Cameron for in-store demos.

Most pieces will remain on display until November 25th.

Doug Rogers

Mike Maydak

Another discovery from FanExpo, Mike Maydak is a Cincinnati-based artist.

Although best known for cityscapes, he has recently got the pop-culture-icon bug and started doing these great paintings of superheores and sci-fi characters. He admits he’s not a big comics buff, and so is often drawn to some of the lesser-known, quirky characters like Doctor Strange or Modok.

Whether it’s the big guns (like Batman) or the second-stringers (like Dr. Who’s Cybermen) they all look fantastic after the Maydak treatment!
